Lamb's Blood
Though soft and gentle, a lamb carries incredible power. Let’s take a closer look and uncover a truth God has known all along.
It’s the curliest and cutest little animal. A lamb. The offspring of sheep and the bouncing, bountiful beauty of God’s creation. But the power behind the lamb is incredibly intriguing! When John the Baptist saw Jesus approaching him from the riverbank (John 1:29 ESV), he announced, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” He knew the power behind this Lamb. The sting of death, the strike of a viper, the sin that poisons the world would be nullified through the Lamb of God. There is more to this story than meets the eye! Hold tight and read on. I hope you are as excited as I am to learn these facts!
Jesus is called the Lamb of God. And as far back as Eden, Satan is known as a serpent or a snake. Until recently, I never knew the science behind the Lamb's blood over the snake's deadly bite. Not long ago, someone shared this story on a social platform; the author is unknown. "A rattlesnake bit one of my sheep in the face about a week ago. The deadliest snake that lives around here. The sheep's face swelled up and hurt her terribly. But the old rattlesnake didn't know the kind of blood that flows through the sheep. Anti-venom is often made from sheep's blood. The sheep swelled for about 2 days, but the blood of the lamb destroyed the venom of the serpent. I was worried, but the sheep didn't care. She kept on eating, kept on drinking and kept on climbing because she knew she was all right. Don't worry about the serpent or his bite, just make sure that the Lamb's Blood is flowing through your veins."
Sheep’s blood is now known to be more effective than horse blood as an anti-venom serum. The blood of the horse was causing allergic reactions, some to the point of death. This discovery made the Australian news feed, informing readers that South Australia’s sheep were being used to develop rattlesnake anti-venom for a UK biotechnology company. They took about 2,000 sheep and slowly injected them with rattlesnake venom until they had a hyper-immunity strong enough to create an anti-body serum. Collecting their blood would spare many lives.
Although this news of a better anti-venom formula from sheep has only been discovered within the last number of decades, it’s news that God knew all along! It’s been reported that there are over 2.1 million species on the planet, from insects to birds to reptiles and mammals. The fact that out of all those species, a lamb conquers a snake is more than a coincidence. It’s our victory! The Lamb conquers death.
In John 10:10 (NASB), we are given knowledge according to the Word, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they have life and have it abundantly.” The ultimate price would be paid with the Lamb’s shed blood on the cross. He would remove the sting and nullify the viper's poison. It was an anti-venom formula that would take away the after-effects of sin. The Lamb of God’s blood would eradicate the viper’s strike and swing wide heaven’s doors. The ultimate sacrifice. No more death or sorrow caused by the enemy’s sting (1 Corinthians 15:55). Instead, ultimate victory. This victory makes Resurrection Sunday, Easter Sunday, a gift to humankind.
The poison no longer needs to linger for all who want freedom from sin. The serum is available through the blood of the Lamb. That sting can’t kill us, nor the enemy’s bite destroy us. Jesus, our substitution, marks Christianity as radically different from any other religion. Instead of us “doing” to reach God, God reaches down and says, “done.” All because of the power given through the blood of the Lamb! Happy Resurrection Sunday – our Lord reigns over death!
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT), “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”

Thank you. Yes, Garth, I found this equally fascinating and timely as well! I wanted something special about our Lord for Resurrection Sunday. It came just a few weeks earlier. It amazes me how our Lord aligns the earthly with the spiritual. He gives us much evidence of His Hand in everything. Psalm 119. Our Lord reigns!
Fascinating and inspiring! An excellent post.
